Ben Simmons is a longtime Japan resident whose photos have appeared in books, magazines, collections, and exhibitions internationally, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Library of Congress, and the United Nations. Ben was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia. He studied photography and psychology at SUNY in the Adirondack Mountains of the North Country in Upstate New York, and then completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in photography and art history on fellowship at the University of Florida. Simmons taught photography at the University of Florida, Haystack Mountain School on Deer Isle in Maine, and was photography resident at Penland School of Crafts in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina before relocating to Japan. Ben Simmons Photography is based in an old fisherman's residence by the seaside at Sagami Bay, located just south of Tokyo on the Miura Peninsula. Ben's passion as a Tokyo and Kyoto photographer continues unabated, inspired by fresh perspectives on his favorite cities.
